My new schnazzie suitcase

I was so impressed with this tutorial for covering hard case suitcases that I knew this was the project for me since I have had 3 of these suitcases that have been waiting for a transformation. They were my husbands grandmothers  and she never went anywhere so its time for these babies to head out and see the world. I am currently using this one on my trip to Wisconsin with my sister. It was relatively easy although I would suggest getting s new blade for your rotary cutter to make it go smoother. I can't wait to do the other ones. You can see this wonderful tutorial at abeautifulmess.blogspot.com

I love Mad Men

COVER_top

Lately I've been obsessed with this show. I've been having a mad men marathon for the past couple of week. I got thru all 52 episodes on netflix and I'm ready to start the new season. Although it will be hard waiting between episodes. I definately think I'm a Joan. I absolutely love her style. I'm ready to incorporate her style into my own work look. Since I also manage an office. If only I could do it with her class and style. Sigh.......

I was window shopping a couple of weeks ago and noticed that Banana Republic had come out with a whole mad men inspired collection and I only had time to run in for a quick drool. It has inspired me to check out vogue's vintage patterns to make a dress myself. Well I'm off to dream of Don until I see him next. The guys a real jerk but I just can't help myself.

This cup is a hoot.

My sister is so sweet. She got this cup for me after I told her I wanted to paint one at the pottery shop. It will be perfect for sipping cocoa out if this fall.

Teddy Bear Head Phones

I saw these teddy bear head phone covers here http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2010/09/crochet_teddy_bear_headphone_c.html. I didn't have a pattern to follow. I just fitted it to the pair of head phones as I went. If you have basic crochet skills, you can figure this out and they are super adorable and can double as ear muffs for your kids while they are waiting for the bus, and they can rock out at the same time. Try it out.

A sweet recycled fall craft

I had a couple wool sweaters that i had shrank to make felt and I was waiting for a craft like this to use one up. I used 1 orange sweater that was already felted and i cut it into strips and cut the ends like a traditional ribbon edge.  I also used 3 sheets of regular craft felt to mix with the sweater wool. and just tied them around a hanger that i rounded out. Easy peasy and very festive. You could use any number of fabrics to make ones for other seasons. I'm thinking of adding a cute bow at the top to hide the hanger but either way its cute. I hope this got you in the fall spirit.

They truly were the perfect popovers

I tried popovers for the first time the other day. I used this recipe from martha stewart's website http://www.marthastewart.com/326501/perfect-popovers. The possibilities for these are endless. You can make them savory or just slather them with butter and jelly. Either way, they are divinity and i plan on making more this fall.

My suprisingly fun weekend

Now that's how you eat some ribs.

This picture reminds me of myself at the close of this weekend. My husband and I went to Mississippi this weekend to help our cousin with a barn raising. Which of course doesn't sound that fun but it sure is nice to visit with family and kinda sexy watching my man frame a building. We started our road trip with a must stop restaurant that we both love, Lambert's Cafe in  Sikeston MO. The home of the thrown roll, with mean if you want one of their fresh rolls, you need to sharpen up your catching skill. Because there's going to be a country boy chucking one at you from across the room. Topped with sore gum or apple butter, they are a dream. It was nice having a childless weekend and the girls enjoyed spending the weekend with their grand parents.

Now back to the picture. On our way back home, I just had to stop by and get me some Memphis ribs from Central BBQ.  So far they are my favorite and they are oh so finger licken good. I'm sure I looked like my daughter above as i revealed my carnavore self. Over all great weekend. Hope your weekend was the same.

Where can you find deer legs and coon skin hats?

The Indian Store of course. We discovered this little gem of a place by my dad's house in San Diego. they have it all covered. Deer legs, turtle shells, animal jaw bones and coon skin hats. You need it, they got it. I did manage to score a neat beading loom and they had beautiful indian blankets. They were pricey but it i had they $250 bucks laying around i might just snag one. It was a fun place to hang out for the afternoon. As you can see.

Lego Land- Slightly Suckish

The kids were so excited to go to lego land.  They weather was perfect.
 Beans in lego vegas
 Taking on vader.
One of only two rides worth even trying to ride.
 The aquarium was nice
In a nut shell. Being people that have a six flags and know what real rides are, you will be sorely disappointed if that's what your coming here for. It really is geared for smaller children in my opinion. Even our 8 year olds were let down. The lines were extremely long and the rides really weren't worth the wait.  For the prices, it just wasn't worth it. We found that the best souvineer's would be from the lego tour. In the gift shop upon leaving. You can design your own lego guys for 3 for $10 bucks.

A suprisingly nice weekend.

Now that's how you eat a rib.

This picture reminded me of myself at the closing of this weekend. Our cousin needed help with a barn raising to we drove out to Mississippi to help him. It was suprisingly cold in the mornings and evenings. So much for catch a couple extra days of summer. On the way we stopped by Lambert's Restaurant in Sikeston MO. If you've never been to one, it's a must hit hotspot. They are the home of the thrown rolls. Which means if you want a fresh roll you gotta catch it from a country boy that is chucking it from across the room, so sharpen you catching skills before you go there. They have typical country food in large portions and super delicious.

Back to the picture, after watching my man lift trusses and hammer away all day. We got it done and left the next afternoon to head home. The kids stayed with the grand parents and it was nice having some alone time. So we didn't head straight home. I have to get me some ribs in Memphis on the way home. Which is why this picture reminds me of myself. I think I looked just like that as I got down and dirty with my ribs. My favorite so far is Central BBQ. It was finger lickin good. And then i got a monster strawberry daiquiri on Beal Street and we paroozed the odd shops up and down the street. We love going there for memphis in May. I can't wait to go back then. Hope your weekend was fun as well.
